Google is rolling out what it describes as its largest navigation experience update in over a decade, introducing a major overhaul to Lacremedugaming that integrates the Gemini artificial intelligence model and replaces traditional flat maps with a three-dimensional environment. Immersive 3D Navigation and Smart Zoom Features
The newly introduced Immersive Navigation feature abandons conventional 2D maps in favor of a detailed, three-dimensional representation of the road environment. Buildings appear in volume, while bridges, overpasses, relief, and vegetation are clearly differentiated to provide additional landmarks. The pavement displays visible lanes, traffic lights, and crosswalks, and the traditional blue arrow representing the vehicle’s position is replaced with a more realistic icon.
When approaching complex intersections, the system performs an automatic “smart zoom” and can render certain buildings transparent to reveal what lies behind them. In vehicle displays on Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, or vehicles with Google built-in, the 3D view adapts with a less aggressive zoom focused on lane and interchange legibility.
Gemini AI Integration and Ask Maps
Artificial intelligence sits at the core of the 2026 overhaul. On Android phones, the Gemini icon has replaced the Google Assistant icon in the upper right corner of Google Maps.
The updated application introduces the Ask Maps assistant, which utilizes data from over 300 million places and thousands of reviews. Ask Maps allows users to make complex requests, such as organizing a road trip with suggested stops, finding a café to recharge a phone, or identifying restaurants matching user preferences. Android Auto Speedometer and System Requirements
In addition to 3D mapping, Android Auto now features a native real-time speedometer that displays the vehicle’s exact speed alongside the speed limit indicator on the infotainment screen.
Technical requirements and resource demands accompany the new features:
- Immersive navigation works best on Android 14+ devices with 6 GB or more of RAM.
- Android Auto requires version 12.0+ and a compatible embedded system.
- The immersive mode can consume 15% to 25% more battery per hour than standard navigation.
Regional Rollout Status and Availability
The deployment is handled dynamically through Google’s servers, meaning availability varies by region, device, and account configuration, and installing the latest application version does not guarantee immediate access. While initial waves launched in the United States in March 2026 and are expanding to stable channels, other regions such as France face a more gradual rollout, with Google indicating an expansion to other countries in the months ahead without a precise global calendar.
