Fatal Head-On Collision Strikes the Ormánság Region
August began with a severe tragedy in the Baranya county Ormánság region. According to disaster management reports, a motorcycle and a passenger car towing a caravan crashed head-on along the 5804 road close to Nagycsány.
The impact occurred at the 26-kilometer mark. Sellye professional firefighters deployed to the scene, where they disconnected the car’s electrical system and removed an intact household-sized gas cylinder from the caravan. Authorities temporarily closed the affected stretch of road to traffic.
Victims Identified and Rescue Efforts at the Scene
The motorcycle carried two brothers from Gilvánfa, both of whom suffered fatal injuries upon impact and died at the scene as reported by Index. Local accounts indicated that the pair had previously received warnings to exercise caution while riding, and traveled without protective gear, wearing shorts and slippers.
Initial reports suggested a single occupant in the car, but disaster management updates confirmed that two people were inside the vehicle. The driver and friends were heading to a fishing competition when the motorcycle drifted across the center line in a slight curve.
Medical Response and Transport to Pécs
Emergency medical personnel worked extensively to revive the driver at the scene, performing resuscitation multiple times noted in regional coverage. An air ambulance was dispatched to the location to airlift the critically injured man.
Medical teams transported him to the hospital in Pécs with life-threatening injuries, where he remained under intensive care.
