Lane Koehn told reporters that he was stopped at a traffic light near the restaurant when he observed an individual armed with an AR-style rifle exiting the drive-through lane. According to Koehn, that person was subsequently fired upon by a man holding a pistol.

Koehn also reported seeing an employee drag a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest into a safe area to wait for paramedics. Lane Koehn noted that the woman was in very bad shape, though he was uncertain of her condition and expressed hope that she had survived.
