Ashley Garibay, a 23-year-old In-N-Out manager from Stockton, California, was killed during a mass shooting at the company’s new Twin Falls, Idaho, location on Saturday, August 1, 2026. The attack, carried out by 24-year-old Chad Williams, left three people dead and seven others wounded before the gunman took his own life.
The violence erupted shortly after 2 p.m. at a restaurant that had opened just days prior on July 24. Ashley Garibay, who normally worked at the In-N-Out location on March Lane in Stockton, had traveled to Idaho specifically to train workers at the new site. She was one of three fatalities in an event that Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks described as a very chaotic scene.

Witnesses reported that the gunman, identified as 24-year-old Chad Williams, appeared to be carrying an AR-style rifle as he emerged from the drive-thru. The shooting began inside the restaurant before extending into the parking lot. Video evidence from the scene shows a man in a black T-shirt and blue pants aiming a firearm at the window of a blue vehicle before running across the lot.
The chaos prompted immediate reactions from those on the scene. Two armed bystanders returned fire at Williams, and one In-N-Out employee dragged a wounded co-worker across the parking lot to safety before paramedics arrived. Police believe Williams acted alone and concluded the event by dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
While the FBI is conducting a thorough investigation, authorities have not yet released a motive for the shooting. The casualty count includes the gunman, the employee Garibay, and 59-year-old Cristopher Claunch, who had visited the location for the first time following its late July opening.

The identification of Ashley Garibay came via social media posts from relatives and friends on Monday, after police had initially withheld names on Sunday to ensure all families were notified. Garibay’s uncle, Marcos, confirmed her identity to KCRA 3, noting that the family was notified of her death on Saturday evening. Garibay’s father had been in Mexico and returned on Monday.
Her mother, Sabrina Garibay, and friends like Alissa Juarez have since shared tributes online. Juarez wrote in a Facebook tribute, Oh my beautiful friend, my heart breaks seeing your pictures knowing they’ll just be memories now.
Garibay’s family released a statement describing her as an amazing, beautiful soul who loved living life
and a devoted daughter, sister, auntie, cousin and friend.
They further stated, “She was adventurous, outgoing, smart and driven, never letting obstacles get in her way. She lit up a room with her bright smile and a laugh that was contagious. She was a friend to all, and no matter what difficulties she was facing, she always found a way to help others find the light in the darkness.”
“In-N-Out Burger was Ashley’s first job, and she fell in love with it. She proudly traveled to open new stores, and her dream was to one day manage an In-N-Out store. She was passionate about serving Customers and left this world doing what she loved to do,” Garibay’s family told the California Post.
The family expressed gratitude for those who assisted her during the attack, stating, We are grateful for the In-N-Out Associates, first responders and those nearby who rushed to Ashley’s aid to comfort her in her final moments on earth.
Response from In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder
In-N-Out Burger President Lynsi Snyder issued a statement confirming that one of the restaurant’s associates was killed. Snyder described the attacker as a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own.
We lost one of our beautiful associates tonight. She was taking care of our most important asset — our customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own,
Snyder said. He shot both on our property and off, and ended his life shortly after he took the precious lives of our associate and customers, innocent people who never saw it coming.
Snyder added that her heart also goes out to all of the associates and customers who were there during this traumatic event
and stated that In-N-Out will be mourning with the families and praying for them as they tread through a very painful season.
Snyder further noted that the gunman shot victims both on and off the property.
