Two Men Convicted Over Death of French Streamer Raphaël Graven

French courts have delivered convictions in connection with the tragic death of online personality Raphaël Graven, a 46-year-old internet creator with a massive following who was routinely subjected to on-stream humiliation and abuse.

Court Penalties and Legal Rulings Issued in France

The legal fallout from the streamer’s death resulted in suspended prison terms and significant financial penalties for both defendants. Hamadi received an 18-month suspended prison sentence alongside a fine of €5,000 (£4,283).

During the legal proceedings, Hamadi expressed remorse for his actions. Both men testified that the humiliating content and severe challenges inflicted on Graven occurred with the streamer’s consent. Consequently, the court acquitted the defendants of abusing Graven’s psychological frailty, because Graven had informed police prior to his death that he willingly consented to the stunts, according to a statement provided to Reuters by Hamadi’s legal counsel.

Medical Factors and Manslaughter Charges Dropped

Neither Hamadi nor Cenazandotti faced charges of manslaughter in relation to the streamer’s passing. Prosecutors concluded that the probable causes of death appeared linked to Graven’s underlying poor health and fragile heart rather than direct lethal force from the convicted individuals.

Graven, who also used the moniker Jean Pormanove, had built a community of more than one million followers across multiple digital platforms. His broadcasts on Kick frequently featured other streamers subjecting him to verbal humiliation and physical acts of violence. Local media coverage from August 2025 noted that a broadcast on August 18 captured the internet personality lying lifeless on a mattress covered with a duvet in Contes, a village situated north of Nice. That specific video has since been removed from Kick.

Platform Restrictions and Ongoing Investigations

As part of their judicial penalties, both Hamadi and Cenazandotti have been barred from posting content on the Kick platform for a duration of six months. Meanwhile, the streaming platform itself continues to face scrutiny from French authorities.

In a statement issued to the New York Times, representatives for Kick clarified that the platform was not a party to the legal proceedings involving Hamadi and Cenazandotti and declined to comment on the final verdict, emphasizing that the court ruling pertained strictly to two individual content creators.
