The celestial alignment will be visible across North and South America, as well as parts of Europe and Africa, according to regional reporting. Observers in North and South America will catch the best views of the night. According to data cited from Time and Date, about 12 percent of the world’s population—representing 987 million people—will see all phases of the eclipse, while around 16 percent—1.3 billion—will see all of the partial phase.

Why the Moon Glows Red and What “Blood Moon” Means
While popular terms often label such events as a “blood moon,” astronomers note that this is not a true total lunar eclipse because the moon will not achieve 100 percent totality at any point during the cycle. The characteristic reddish-orange glow stems from the exact same atmospheric physics that produce brilliant sunsets on Earth.

Blue light scatters easily as sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere, whereas reddish wavelengths travel in a more direct line.
