To rally public pressure, MovePH published the [PCR] call and put click buttons under all related Rappler articles. This digital organizing strategy yielded tangible results across international borders. As records show, a global conversation was sparked. It pushed the petition to the top 10 of the most signed petitions globally over that weekend.

That massive online mobilization successfully deferred the execution. Yet, despite the temporary reprieve, Veloso remained confined behind bars in Indonesia for another decade. Her case eventually transitioned from a fleeting internet trend into a persistent, multi-year reporting and advocacy beat.

Decade-Long Coverage and the Road to Repatriation

Rather than dropping the narrative once the initial viral wave subsided, the newsroom maintained its commitment to Veloso, her family in Cabanatuan, and her volunteer lawyers. Over the subsequent ten years, the publication documented every major development, tracking the legal battles and the personal toll on her relatives.

This sustained focus culminated in Veloso’s repatriation to Manila in 2025. Initially transferred straight to the correctional for women upon her return, her legal status shifted dramatically with the recent executive pardon granted by President Marcos, allowing her to finally walk free.
