An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck the state of Malatya, southeastern Turkey, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, AFAD.

The statement indicated that the earthquake’s strength reached 4.4 on the Richter scale, and it occurred at a depth of 9.6 kilometers.

For his part, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerli Kaya said that AFAD teams and the relevant authorities had begun surveying the field damage resulting from the earthquake.

He confirmed in a blog post on the “X” platform that no negative developments had been recorded so far, wishing safety for the citizens who felt the earthquake.

It is noteworthy that at dawn on Monday, February 6, 2023, a devastating earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, leaving tens of thousands dead and wounded. The incident was called the “disaster of the century,” while the aftershocks of the earthquake reached other countries in the region, and were felt by residents in Lebanon, Iraq and Egypt.
