More Than a Break From Work

Speaking of leisure, it’s easiest to define it as free time from your main work: it can be a weekday evening betting at the online sportsbook or watching TV series, a weekend spent with friends, or a full vacation at the seaside. The most important thing is to find the right approach to the weekly leisure time, which allows us to relax after work and becomes a reward for completing our tasks. Then a simple mechanism is activated: we give ourselves positive emotions, and they inspire and motivate us to further achievements. So, a good leisure time can relieve stress and help get out of a work deadlock, opening new perspectives for yourself.

It remains to understand how best to reward yourself and not to overpay for it.

Leisure Time Shouldn’t Become a Chore

Don’t put your leisure in a rigid framework. Stability is good, but if leisure turns into a routine, what bright impressions can we talk about? Where the word “must” is present, there is a danger of losing the fun. But let’s make a small exception: you have to listen to yourself and your desires.

Follow Your Interests

It’s worth thinking about what feelings and emotions we would really like to get from the nearest vacation.

It’s unnecessary to go to a bar or cafe every Saturday evening. After all, if you listen to yourself, you may find that during the week you are bored with communication with people. Then even the usually pleasant company can cause irritation, which will also be added to the wasted money. Spending time alone with yourself or a loved one at home is also leisure time.

The more precisely we manage to match our needs and possible entertainment, the better the reward will be.

  • Need some solitude but are tired of sitting at home? You can go to a greenhouse or aquarium. Unhurried contemplation of nature will allow you to immerse yourself in your thoughts and switch from the daily bustle. But for such places, it’s better to choose weekdays.
  • Is there a desire to expand the circle of communication? Courses of scenic skills, speed dating clubs, board game clubs are suitable. People also readily get acquainted at various festivals.
  • Stressed and negative emotions that you want to release? Look for options for emotional and physical discharge: drive concert, boxing club, or paintball. There are special “rage rooms” where you can break dishes and break furniture.
  • Feeling the piling up of fatigue, restraining the body and the will? You could go to the spa, yoga, or massage. Finnish sauna and Turkish hammam could help you relax.
  • Feeling a cultural or spiritual demand? Go to the theater: live emotions of actors give strong impressions and a chance to see many things from a new angle. And Catholic and Protestant churches often host classical music concerts.

These are just some combinations of internal inquiries and responses to them. It’s up to you to determine what resonates more in the present moment.

The key idea is to consciously choose how to fill your upcoming leisure time, whether it’s a weekday or a weekend, rather than seeking to go anywhere. This approach will allow you to focus on what will bring pleasure and save money on secondary entertainment.

You Can Save Money on Leisure Activities

If we talk about leisure time as a reward for work done, then the issue of spending money on it spoils the picture a bit. Why should we have to pay for our reward as well? Actually, we don’t. It’s just that arranging free (or almost free) leisure time will require more of our own creativity, enthusiasm, and perhaps even naive openness.

Let’s go through the previous list, but this time without assuming a significant expenditure of money:

  • Do we want solitary contemplation? The vast expanses of numerous forest parks and nature reserves open before us. In any region, it’s easy to find interesting locations. 
  • You can meet interesting people at public lectures and seminars. It’s also easy to make new acquaintances at art exhibitions: such events are often held for free. 
  • One option to relieve stress is to arrange a “crash-test” of your own apartment or house. Choose long-worn-out clothes, pity-hoarded utensils or never-used items and get rid of them in the most sophisticated way. You can even start a renovation, but then you will have to spend money.

Trying to turn every free night into a unique experience isn’t a good idea. Watching a soap opera on weekdays and meeting up with friends at a bar on the weekend are great leisure options that will also work as a reward. The important thing is that they fit your inner feelings and desires. However, making a conscious choice in favor of new experiences can take your vacation, and with it the rest of your life, to a whole new level.
