Starting November 16, 2026, conversations in public servers will become discoverable through Google search. All Discoverable Servers will receive Server Web Pages featuring automated summaries, followed by word-for-word message indexing in mid-December. The platform aims to revive searchable online forums while introducing privacy opt-out controls for users and administrators.
How Public Server Discovery Works Across 63,000 Communities
The platform is making some conversations in its public servers searchable and easier to find on the open web.
The update targets conversations in Discoverable Servers. These are public spaces on Discord where administrators choose to list their communities in the platform’s Server Discovery directory so anyone can join without an invitation link.
If you've ever searched for a specific speedrun trick, someone has likely already answered it in a channel somewhere, in one of 63,000 Discoverable Servers. We’re updating Discoverable Servers to make those answers easier to find. https://t.co/kYowgybmZj
Discord counts more than 63,000 such servers hosting discussions on topics ranging from gaming strategies and fandoms to language learning and technical advice.
Under the new rollout, every Discoverable Server will automatically receive a public Server Web Page starting on November 16, 2026. These pages will display basic information, server descriptions, and AI-generated summaries of active public channel discussions.
By mid-December, selected messages posted in those public channels will begin appearing word-for-word in search engine results. This allows internet users to read discussions without joining the server or even holding a Discord account.
Server Web Pages serve as hubs displaying basic information such as a description alongside summaries of discussions happening on public channels. These discoverable servers represent the most public spaces on the service, requiring at least 1,000 members and an age of at least eight weeks before becoming eligible.

Gaming communities could draw attention to walkthroughs. Developers could reach more people with technical advice. Content creators could attract new audiences without relying solely on Discord’s internal discovery tools.
Protecting Privacy With Controls and Regional Exemptions
Server owners can configure visibility by visiting Server Settings > Web Presence, where they can exclude specific channels or disable automated conversation summaries entirely.
If administrators take no action, public channels remain active by default when the web pages launch.
Individual members can also block their own contributions from web search indexing. Users can go to User Settings > Data & Privacy and toggle off the setting labeled Show my message content from Discoverable channels on web pages.
Discord confirmed that published messages will not display user avatars or usernames, and private servers, direct messages, group direct messages, and restricted channels remain excluded.

Legal restrictions in select markets dictate different default behaviors. The feature is turned off by default in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea, requiring users in those regions to manually opt in. Teen users are also excluded from the feature entirely.
Revoking consent after the fact does not take effect retroactively, meaning messages that have already been published will only disappear if users delete them individually within Discord itself.
Switching off a server's publishing features does not necessarily remove material that has already been published, as search engines may retain cached copies after Discord removes the original content.
Reviving Traditional Internet Forums Through Search Engines
Discord framed the update as an effort to recapture the utility of classic internet forums, which excelled at hosting long-form, structured conversations about technical troubleshooting, theory crafting, and community support.

As communities migrated into closed Discord servers over the years, valuable troubleshooting knowledge became locked away from broader web searches. By integrating with Google and other search engines, the platform mirrors the search traffic model long utilized by discussion hubs like Reddit.
During pilot tests, Discord trialed the functionality with prominent game communities including Rust and Dead by Daylight, alongside NBA 2K.
The changes are not retroactive; summaries and individual messages will only capture conversations and posts created after the November 16, 2026, and mid-December launch dates.
