ActionSA will announce a merger with two political parties as the party experiences a decline in electoral support. The announcement is expected to take place on Monday at approximately 9 a.m.

Consolidation of Support

Party spokesperson Matthew George said the two political parties will be joining ActionSA in “consolidating a credible and united alternative.” George stated that Monday’s announcement highlights ActionSA’s growing appeal to South Africans who support the party’s efforts to improve the country.

“This fight requires the consolidation and strengthening of a unified alternative capable of displacing the failed establishment parties ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections,” George said.

Herman Mashaba to Lead Announcement

ActionSA President Herman Mashaba, alongside Deputy President Dr. Mbahare Kekana, National Chairperson Michael Beaumont, National Spokesperson Lerato Ngobeni, and the leaders of the merging political parties, will lead the announcement. Key leadership from both ActionSA and the merging parties will also be present.

The identities of the political parties consolidating with ActionSA remain unclear.

Declining Support for ActionSA

ActionSA has seen a significant decline in electoral support since its peak in the 2021 local government elections. In the 2024 national and provincial elections, the party’s support dropped to 1.2% nationwide.

In the 2021 local elections, ActionSA received 296,345 votes in Johannesburg, translating to 16.05% of the vote and 44 out of 270 council seats. The party did not win any wards.

Despite the decline in support, ActionSA maintains its representation of 44 seats in the Joburg Council until the 2026 local elections.

Uniting Smaller Parties

In January 2025, ActionSA announced its intention to unite smaller opposition parties under a single banner. The party absorbed Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD), which received 18,523 votes in the 2024 national elections.

ActionSA National Chairperson Michael Beaumont previously stated the party does not align with the government of national unity (GNU) or the Progressive Caucus.
