Áine Betagh, of Castlerea, Co. Roscommon and Gortnor Abbey, Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by family, following a long illness.

Obituary

She was predeceased by her infant brother, Thomas.

Áine is survived by her husband, Edmund Betagh; parents Tommy and Kathleen Forde; brother Rory (Athlone); sister Siobhán (Glencorrib); parents-in-law Richard and Jean Betagh; brother-in-law Thomas and his partner Emma; sister-in-law Alma; brother-in-law Martyn Kennett; nieces Annabel, Moya and Aoibh; nephews Conor, Xander and Charlie; godchildren Laila and Felix; and a large circle of friends, relatives, colleagues and neighbours.

Reposing will be held at Gaynor’s Funeral Home, The Square, Castlerea (F45 HH24) on Friday, March 13th, from 4pm to 7pm.

A second repose will take place at Hiney’s Funeral Home, Crossmolina (F26 DH95) on Sunday, March 15th, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm, followed by Prayers and reception into St. Tiernan’s Church, Crossmolina.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, March 16th at 12 midday, with burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery.

Áine’s funeral Mass will be live-streamed on Gaynor Funeral Directors’ Facebook page.

Family flowers only are requested. Donations in lieu may be made to Breakthrough Cancer Research c/o Gaynor Funeral Directors.

The family has requested strict privacy at all times.
