/ The United States and Israel issued a joint warning to highlight what they described as “malicious cyber activity” linked to Iran that could affect many sectors, including water systems in the United States as well as energy and food.

Hackers affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard targeted control and programming units manufactured by Unitronics, according to reports from several intelligence agencies, including the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Israeli National Cyber Directorate.

The agencies said in a statement that since at least November 22, IRGC actors under the name “CyberAv3ngers” have compromised Unitronics devices, leaving a message saying “You have been hacked, down with Israel.”

Israel has long accused its arch enemy Iran of being behind several failed attempts to hack the websites of a number of Israeli public institutions, in incidents that occurred in recent years.

What are “CyberAv3ngers”?

The statement says it is a cyber group affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which has claimed responsibility for several attacks against critical infrastructure institutions.

The group claimed responsibility for numerous cyberattacks in Israel starting in 2020.

“It claimed to have harmed several critical infrastructure organizations in Israel,” the statement says.

According to the same statement, CyberAv3ngers also has connections to another group linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard known as “Soleiman’s Soldiers.”

Recently, CyberAv3ngers began targeting US-based facilities running Unitronics.
