As part of the activities of the Islamic Arts Festival, Al-Khatt Square witnesses the opening of 3 exhibitions for 10 creative people

The head of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, and the director of the Department of Cultural Affairs in the department, Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qaseer, director of the festival, opened 3 exhibitions in Arabic calligraphy, calligraphy, and Islamic ornamentation, as part of the activities of the twenty-fifth session of the Islamic Arts Festival, in the presence of the Director General of the Authority. Sharjah Museums Aisha Dimas, and a large number of artists, media professionals and lovers of Arabic calligraphy arts.

The Sharjah Calligraphy Museum hosted a parallel personal exhibition by Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rais, entitled “The Tranquility of the Craft,” while calligraphers’ homes celebrated two exhibitions: “Cligraphy in Sharjah” by three Arab calligraphers, and “Contemporary Gilding” by 6 male and female artists from Turkey.

Al-Owais, Al-Qusair, and the audience toured, starting with Al-Rais’ “Sakina Al-Harf” exhibition, dedicated to a group of his letters-based paintings, in addition to a painting representing the Grand Mosque of Sharjah. It was an important occasion for a closer look at Al-Rais’s experience in the field of letters, and how he entered it from the wide gate of abstraction, following the traces of… Arab craftsmen who preceded him in this endeavor.

The audience listened to the artist’s explanations about the paintings, most of which he produced in watercolor on paper of different sizes, in which the artist was keen to create harmony between the letter and the surrounding color space.

The attendees continued their tour of the calligraphers’ homes, where they enjoyed a distinguished tour of the “Contemporary in Gilding” exhibition with the participation of 6 artists from Turkey, namely: Orhan Dagli, Hatice Dilek, Salma Qalqan, Fatma Woral, Fatma Dudukcu, and Masoumeh Muradi. The works reflected an important aspect in highlighting the art of gilding, and that By gilding the Qur’an and mosques with authentic traditional decorations.

This authentic and precise vocabulary was also employed in geometric and free artistic formations that express the gilder’s ability to develop vocabulary with strict systems and rules into feelings that enrich and excite the viewer through the elegance of gilding, and to open new doors for creativity and contemporary composition.

The Calligraphers Houses hosted the “I Calligraphed in Sharjah” exhibition with the participation of Abdul Razzaq Al Mahmoud from Syria, and Moamen Al Sharqawi and Yasser Al Ashry from Egypt, where they presented works that express their creativity in the arts of Arabic calligraphy.
