Train services across Auckland were suspended for a period this morning due to a nationwide outage of the system used to manage train movements. Auckland Transport (AT) is working to restore services to their usual timetable, with full operation resuming around 10:15 a.m.

Auckland Train Network Disrupted by System Failure

AT initially alerted travelers to expect delays and possible cancellations due to the Network Control System Failure earlier this morning. Shortly after 9 a.m., all train services in Auckland were suspended as a result of the nationwide outage.

According to an AT spokesperson, many passengers were able to quickly disembark their trains at stations when the outage occurred, while others waited onboard until services resumed.

AT is encouraging passengers to utilize scheduled AT bus services that connect with the rail network while train services are restored. Alternative transport is also being organized for areas with limited bus connections, such as between Papakura and Pukekohe.

Signs at stations across the network informed passengers of the issue and directed them to the AT app for updates. A reporter for 1News observed “heaps of people waiting for Ubers” near Orakei station this morning.

AT thanked passengers for their patience and understanding.
