Azerbaijan’s Peat Imports Rise In 2025 With Georgia Remaining Top Supplier

Azerbaijan’s peat imports increased by 11 percent in quantity and 9 percent in value between January and October 2025, reaching 13,457 tons worth $2.26 million, according to data from the State Statistics Committee.

Imports from Georgia saw a significant increase of 38 percent in both volume and value, totaling 9,490 tons worth $948,000. Belarus also experienced a substantial rise, with imports tripling to 813 tons valued at $239,000.

Conversely, imports from Russia decreased by 50 percent to 1,490 tons, with a value of $375,000, down 29 percent. Latvia and Estonia also saw declines, with imports falling by 20 percent and 35 percent respectively.

In 2024, Azerbaijan imported 15,491 tons of peat valued at $2.07 million, with Georgia supplying approximately 59 percent of the total. In 2023, total imports were around 14,200 tons worth $1.95 million, again with Georgia as the dominant supplier.

Imports in 2022 totaled approximately 13,000 tons, valued at around $1.82 million, indicating a relatively stable demand and consistent supplier geography over the past few years.

The overall increase in peat imports reflects continued demand from Azerbaijan’s agricultural, horticultural, and industrial sectors, and highlights ongoing trade relationships with regional partners.
