Latvia saw its highest level of blood donation activity in 13 years last year, though demand from medical institutions also rose, according to data from the State Blood Donor Center.
Latvia Blood Donation Statistics
A total of 63,707 blood donations were made in Latvia last year, an increase of 1,375 donations compared to 2024. The number of donors also increased, rising from 35,000 in 2024 to 36,026 last year.
The average age of a blood donor in the country was 39 years old, while the average age of first-time donors was 31. The Blood Donor Center is encouraging more young people to donate blood.
Last year, 277 donors gave blood on their birthdays.
Women accounted for 52.5 percent of blood donors, while men made up 47.5 percent.
Donation frequency varied among donors, with 19,339 donating once, 8,946 donating twice, 5,122 donating three times, 2,018 donating four times, 568 donating five times, and 33 donating six times.
Officials remind residents that blood donation is a fast, safe process that supports healthy blood circulation and is essential for many life-saving medical procedures.
