Stakeholders from government, industry, and civil society convened at Bukidnon State University (BukSU) to refine the institution’s 2025-2030 SMART Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Framework.

BukSU Stakeholders Align on Research Agenda

The BukSU Stakeholders’ Convergence Forum took place on December 12, 2025, at the Audio-Visual Center on the university’s main campus, facilitated by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Innovations.

Representatives from sectors including health, education, culture and arts, environmental management, law and governance, business, and science and technology participated in the forum to align existing programs and projects with BukSU’s research agenda and completed scientific studies.

Dr. Lincoln V. Tan, Vice President for Culture, Arts, Sports, and Socio-Cultural Services, reading the welcoming speech of University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, stated the gathering was “an invitation to build meaningful collaborations, explore innovations that can uplift lives, and open doors to the practical use and wider adoption of BukSU’s research initiatives.”

Vice President for Research, Extension and Innovations Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso emphasized the institution’s dedication to producing meaningful outcomes, noting that partners are “the very heartbeat of why research and extension exist in BukSU.”

Barroso remarked, “BukSU believes that every study we develop, every training we offer, and every innovation we pursue, our goal has always been to create something useful, something magamit (that can be utilized) ug makatabang (and beneficial) to our stakeholders and communities.”

Stakeholder representatives highlighted the need for BukSU’s intervention through R&D, particularly in implementing research-based programs, projects, and policies, including project monitoring tools.

Financial backing is crucial for the continuation of research and its implementation by local government units and private sector entities. VP Barroso stated BukSU is committed to dedicating internal funds to research.

Access to external funding remains a challenge for academic institutions. To address this, BukSU is strategically channeling efforts through the Project ADOREE initiative, transitioning research studies into actionable programs and strengthening external collaborations for a larger impact.
