More than 1,000 Pakistani researchers have been included in a global ranking of top scientists for 2025, released by Stanford University, California. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan celebrated the achievement, reaffirming its commitment to fostering research focused on the country’s socio-economic development.
Pakistani Scientists Recognized Globally
Approximately 118 researchers currently affiliated with universities in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas were honored at a ceremony attended by vice chancellors, deans, and faculty members. The HEC announced plans to host similar events in other provinces, followed by a research exhibition to showcase the work of these distinguished individuals.
Chairman HEC, Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, presented certificates to the recognized researchers. Executive Director HEC, Dr. Zia ul Haq, also attended the ceremony; he is among those globally ranked. Dr. Engr. Muhammad Ali Nasir, Advisor to HEC’s Research & Innovation Division, was also present.
The Stanford University list identifies the world’s top over 100,000 scientists across various disciplines based on citation impact.
Dr. Niaz Akhtar congratulated the researchers, calling them “the stars of the nation.” He emphasized the crucial role of universities in knowledge creation and transformation, skill development, and the cultivation of responsible citizens. He also highlighted the importance of teachers in national development, describing teaching as a “noble profession.”
The HEC allocates substantial resources to research and will continue to support researchers through funding and initiatives, according to Chairman Akhtar. He encouraged researchers to align their work with industrial needs and to continually assess its contribution to their respective fields.
