A Canadian teenager has been identified as the person found dead on an Australian beach, surrounded by dingoes. Piper James, 19, from British Columbia, was discovered on Friday morning on K’gari (Fraser Island) off the coast of Queensland.

Authorities responded to reports of a woman being circled by dingoes on the beach. James was found with critical injuries and later pronounced dead.
According to reports, James had recently arrived in Australia and was travelling along the Queensland coast. She was reportedly staying at a campsite on K’gari (Fraser Island) at the time of the incident.
James’s father, Peter James, shared a statement expressing his devastation. “Our hearts are shattered,” he said, adding that his daughter loved nature and was living her dream.
A friend of James described her as a nature lover who was excited about her Australian adventure. “She was just so excited to be there and experience everything,” the friend stated.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) rangers are investigating the incident and have increased patrols on the island. Authorities are urging visitors to K’gari (Fraser Island) to be cautious around dingoes and to follow safety guidelines.
The incident has prompted renewed discussion about dingo safety on the island, a popular tourist destination.
