Capilano University – CapU welcomes Dr. Jason Dewling as its next president and vice-chancellor

Capilano University has appointed Dr. Jason Dewling as its eighth president and vice-chancellor, effective March 2. He will be the fourth president since the institution became a university in 2008.

Dr. Dewling most recently served as chief learning officer of LCI Education and president of LaSalle College Vancouver. RJ Wallia, chair of the Board of Governors, stated the board is pleased to welcome Dr. Dewling, citing his leadership, commitment to collaboration, and experience with Indigenous communities as key assets.

Dr. Dewling holds a PhD in Education from the University of Alberta and has over 25 years of experience in higher education. He also earned a master’s degree from Acadia University. His career includes roles at Lakeland College, Olds College, and LCI Education, where he oversaw campuses in Western Canada and Asia Pacific.

At LCI Education, Dr. Dewling led international initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. His leadership philosophy emphasizes equity, innovation, and sustainability, aligning with CapU’s mission.

“I am honoured to join Capilano University and to serve a community so deeply committed to Truth and Reconciliation, creativity, inclusion, and student success,” said Dr. Dewling. He expressed excitement about building on the university’s legacy with employees and students.

Dr. Dewling’s appointment follows a comprehensive search. He succeeds Dr. Laureen Styles, who has served as interim president and vice-chancellor since April 2025. The board has expressed gratitude for Dr. Styles’ service during the transition.
