A 26-year-old man has been remanded in custody until May 13 following his appearance in Cork District Court on drug-dealing charges.

  • Defendant: Aaron O’Driscoll, 26, of Desmond Square, Greenmount, Cork.
  • Seizures: Cannabis, cocaine, diamorphine, €1,675 in cash, and drug packaging paraphernalia.
  • Status: Remanded in custody pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí objected to bail for Aaron O’Driscoll, asserting that his addictions had spiralled out of control and that he would likely deal more drugs if released.

Judge Mary Dorgan granted the remand on the application of Sergeant Aisling Murphy to allow time for directions to be obtained from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Details of the Drug-Dealing Charges

Det Garda James Byrd testified that on March 29, the Cork City district drugs unit executed a warrant at O’Driscoll’s residence at 24 Desmond Square, Greenmount, under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

During the search, gardaí located a large quantity of suspected cannabis, cocaine, and diamorphine in a bedroom and the kitchen.

Officers also recovered €1,675 in cash, consisting predominantly of small denomination notes. Two digital scales and plastic wrapping used for packaging drugs were found on the kitchen table.

Addiction and Bail Opposition

Det Garda Byrd told the court that O’Driscoll cooperated during the search regarding the ownership of the cash, suspected drugs, and paraphernalia.

The court heard that O’Driscoll is currently unemployed and suffers from a heavy addiction to cannabis, heroin, and crack cocaine.

Gardaí believe the addiction costs several hundred euros per day and contend that, with no other means of support, the accused would continue to sell controlled drugs in Cork City.

O’Driscoll remains in custody until his next court appearance on May 13.
