A couple in Ireland built a timber-clad home without planning permission after spending years on the local housing waiting list.
Family Granted Retention for Self-Built Home
Rebecca and Noel Somers erected a log cabin and storage shed, measuring 113 square metres, at Newhouse, Thomastown, Co Kilkenny, after being on the council’s housing waiting list for nine years.
The Somers stated they did not believe planning permission was required for the structure, which Kilkenny County Council has acknowledged “fits in well with its surroundings.”
