Gallantry Recognition for Marri Venkat Reddy
The Ministry of Home Affairs released its annual list of police medals on Sunday, January 25, marking the 77th Republic Day celebrations. Among the recipients, Cyberabad Head Constable Marri Venkat Reddy stands out as the sole police officer from Telangana to receive the Gallantry Medal this year. According to official reporting, the award recognizes his decision to risk his own life while performing his duties, demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of fire.
In total, 23 medals were awarded to personnel within the Telangana police force, spanning ranks from Inspector General down to the constable level. Nationally, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced medals for 982 personnel across police, fire service, home guard and civil defense, and correctional services, including 125 Gallantry Medals, 101 President’s Distinguished Service Medals, and 756 Medals for Meritorious Service.
Presidential and Meritorious Service Honors
Beyond the Gallantry Medal, the state saw two senior officers receive the President’s Distinguished Service Medal. The recipients of this high honor are Additional SP of the Intelligence Security Wing (ISW) G.S. Prakash Rao and Sub-Inspector Annu Damodar Reddy.
A further 12 police officers were honored with the Medal for Meritorious Service. The list of recipients includes Badugula Sumathi (IG), Pagunta Venkatramulu (Commandant), Mogilicherla Shankar (DSP), Bhanumurthy (Senior Commandant), KVM Prasad (DCP), C. Vamsi Mohan Reddy (DSP), T. Lakshmi (DSP), Boora Ellaiah (SI), V. Purushotham Reddy (SI), Syed Abdul Karim (SI), B. Anandam (ASI), and Paili Manohar (Head Constable).
Broad Recognition Across Departments
The recognition extended beyond the police force to other critical sectors. Three members of the Fire Service—leading firefighters G. Rajender, Hanumantha Rao Gauthi, and Ravinder Kolapuri—received medals for their service. The Home Guard and Civil Defense division saw recognition for Ravi Masaram, P. Jangayya, and Renuka Burranolla, a woman home guard. Additionally, the Correctional Service was honored through the selection of Deputy Jailer M. Sudhakar Reddy and Assistant Deputy Jailer K. Ashok Kumar.
