Deepest Snowfall in Latgale

The snow depth in Dagda has increased from 40 to 47 centimeters this week, marking the highest measurement in the country. Piedruja, in the Krāslava region, has the second-thickest snow cover with 41 centimeters.

The Daugavpils observation station recorded 35 centimeters of snow, while Rēzekne and Līvāni regions are covered with 30 and 32 centimeters, respectively.

Snow depth varies across the country, ranging from six centimeters in Daugavgrīva and Mērsrags to 28 centimeters in Rucava. In Rīga, the snow cover measures 16 centimeters at the central observation station.

The LVĢMC measures snow cover using ultrasonic sensors, and the average snow thickness in an area may differ from the measurements taken at observation stations.

Sunday is expected to be variable in cloud cover with no significant precipitation. A slow to moderate northeasterly to easterly wind will continue, and temperatures will range from -5 to -10 Celsius, with slightly warmer conditions in coastal areas. Rīga is forecast to be dry and partly cloudy.

A thaw and snow melt are currently forecast beginning February 12th, though snow cover may increase again in the second half of February.
