Videos shared on social media show the ship grounded near the island, which is also known as “Cast Away” island due to the filming of the 2000 Tom Hanks movie there.

A government spokesperson stated that the cruise operator transported all passengers back to Port Denarau, located in the Nadi area on Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu. The ship remains stuck on the reef.

Fiji Navy sources reported that the Fiji Princess had approximately 30 passengers and 30 crew members on board. All individuals were safely rescued and moved to Denarau on Sunday. Some crew members remain on board the vessel.

There were no reported injuries. The cruise operator is currently working on plans to salvage and recover the ship.

The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji is preparing a report regarding the incident. Blue Lagoon Cruises has not yet responded to requests for comment.

It is currently unclear if any Australian citizens were among those on board.
