A large fire broke out at a seniors’ home in Mission, British Columbia, on Monday night, prompting the evacuation of residents as crews worked to extinguish the flames.

Mission Seniors’ Home Evacuated Due to Fire

Dozens of residents evacuated the Chartwell Carrington House on the south side of 7th Avenue after the home erupted in flames and smoke around 6 p.m. Columns of fire and smoke were visible, appearing to originate from the third floor of the multi-unit complex.

Mission RCMP stated they are working to confirm that all residents made it out safely.

Evacuated residents were transported by bus to the Mission Leisure Centre, located at 7th Avenue and Grand Street. Family members seeking to connect with loved ones were directed to the Leisure Centre, not the retirement residence. Emergency Support Services are on site at the Leisure Centre to assist evacuees, according to the RCMP.

Authorities reported sufficient food and supplies are available at the Leisure Centre and are not currently requesting donations.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and there is no current information regarding any injuries.
