Rescue 1122 dispatched fire brigades, rescue teams, and an ambulance to the scene after receiving information about the blaze. Videos circulating online showed flames engulfing several vehicles in the market’s parking area.

According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan, the fire is now under control and the cooling process is underway. All individuals were safely evacuated, and a search of the building was conducted. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation and are in stable condition.

Official Response and Coordination

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab stated on X (formerly Twitter) that KMC fire tenders with snorkel lifts were on the ground to tackle the situation and that people were being evacuated. He added that he would continue to provide updates.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah congratulated fire and rescue personnel for controlling the flames. He emphasized the importance of crowd management and ensuring traffic flow to facilitate rescue operations, and ordered a report from the Karachi commissioner.

Shah directed officials to prioritize the evacuation of any trapped individuals and then focus on saving property. He also called for coordination between police, municipalities, and administration during the rescue work.

Recent Fires and Ongoing Concerns

The incident occurred two weeks after a blaze at Gul Plaza shopping mall, which has resulted in 80 deaths so far.

Later, Mayor Wahab arrived at the market to supervise the operation, inspecting the rescue work alongside Mobile Market Association President Muhammad Minhaj Gulfam. Wahab noted that the building association had firefighting equipment on hand, which aided in containing the flames. He also acknowledged traffic congestion as a challenge and urged public cooperation.

Gulfam stated that the timely action of rescue teams brought the fire under control, praising the fire brigade’s role. He said that goods worth billions of rupees were saved and, more importantly, lives were protected.

Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan reported that three vehicles inside the building were damaged, but that firefighters responded promptly and timely reporting helped prevent greater losses.
