The hearing of the foreign funding case against PTI founder Imran Khan and others was adjourned on Thursday after the prosecution again failed to submit the challan, highlighted by a contentious courtroom exchange regarding the use of artificial intelligence.
Court officials informed the judge that the challan had not been presented because the scrutiny process, currently being conducted by the registrar of the banking court, is still in progress.
AI Referenced in Foreign Funding Case
During the proceedings, Imran Khan’s lawyer questioned the current legal procedure and cited ChatGPT, stating that the AI tool suggested the registrar was not responsible for scrutinizing the challan. The lawyer expressed concerns regarding the legal basis of the process being utilized.
The prosecution responded strongly, arguing that the defense was relying on artificial intelligence without a proper understanding of the legal framework. Prosecutors maintained that in special courts, the registrar is indeed responsible for scrutinizing challans before they are formally submitted.
The prosecutor further asserted that reliance on ChatGPT cannot replace statutory requirements or established legal procedures governing court operations.
Verdict Reserved and Adjournment
The court also heard pre-arrest bail applications for two individuals accused in the case. Following brief proceedings, the judge reserved the verdict.
The hearing has been adjourned until May 11. The case continues to encounter delays due to procedural issues and repeated failures in the submission of the challan.
