Federal authorities investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar over potential citizenship fraud questioned her older sister, Sahra Noor, last week following a high-profile morning raid on the lawmaker’s Washington, D.C., residence, Fox News reported. Noor spoke voluntarily with investigators after Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at the progressive congresswoman’s home at roughly 6 a.m. on Oct. 12, 2026. While the exact scope of Noor’s conversation with federal authorities remains unclear, the interview marks a widening circle of scrutiny surrounding the Minnesota Democrat’s family records.
Noor Cancels Book Tour Appearance After Federal Raid
Like the congresswoman, Noor arrived in the United States as a child while fleeing the civil war in Somalia. She currently resides in Kenya according to her LinkedIn profile, but she was traveling across the U.S. to promote her new book, Salt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story. The fallout from the federal raid forced Noor to abruptly cancel a scheduled Oct. 15 book tour appearance at the University of Minnesota Rochester. Garden Party Books, a local bookstore that organized the event alongside the university and the Rochester Public Library, initially told Fox News Digital that Noor missed the appearance due to a family emergency.
It was subsequently revealed that she spent part of that week speaking with federal agents.
Prosecutors Use DNA Evidence to Probe Citizenship Paperwork
The investigation centers on whether the lawmaker or her late father falsified information when submitting her citizenship paperwork. Border czar Tom Homan stated over the weekend that if prosecutors prove the allegations, the findings could ultimately lead to Omar’s denaturalization. During the Oct. 12 raid, agents seized the congresswoman’s personal computer, passport, and phone, prompting her legal team over the weekend to demand that the Justice Department return the confiscated property. Furthermore, federal prosecutors plan to use DNA evidence in an attempt to substantiate long-standing allegations that Omar committed immigration fraud, sources told The Post. The New York Times reported that about a dozen individuals, including several of Omar’s relatives, have received subpoenas in connection to the case.
Multiple sources have confirmed to me that federal agents went dumpster diving to get DNA from Minnesota Congresswoman @IlhanMN and her family before the raid on her D.C. home earlier this week. Omar Calls Federal Raid an Abuse of Power
The investigation has ignited a fierce political firestorm across Washington. Omar has not been seen publicly since the raid, though her husband has been spotted walking their dog and talking with an aide outside their home. The congresswoman has not responded to repeated requests for comment from Fox News Digital, but she issued a scathing critique of the operation on social media. This raid by Trump’s DHS is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies,
Omar wrote in a statement posted to X hours after the raid. The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.
Former President Barack Obama sharply criticized the proceedings, calling the investigation appalling
in a social media statement and arguing that the government is attempting to intimidate and deport one of the president’s most vocal critics. House Democratic leaders similarly condemned the search as deeply disturbing. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Vice President JD Vance maintained that the investigation lacks political motivation. We don’t want to be like the Biden administration.
We never want to be like that — where they would allow the law to go after their political opponents,
Vance said, adding, We really want to let the law, the facts drive this.
President Donald Trump told reporters that the search has nothing to do with me,
adding, I think she’s a terrible person, but that’s really up to the DOJ.

More on Ilhan Omar
It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand…
