School boards across several regions in Ontario have announced closures for Monday, January 26, 2026, as Environment Canada forecasts significant snowfall, with some areas expected to receive 60 or more centimetres.
Toronto
All Toronto District School Board schools, sites and administrative buildings, including Child Care centres, will be closed to students and most staff. Secondary exams scheduled for Monday will be postponed and rescheduled later this week, with schools providing details to impacted students and families.
Toronto Catholic District School Board is also closing all schools and board sites on Monday. Bus transportation, childcare centres, before-and after-school programs, and permits are cancelled. Exams scheduled for tomorrow will be rescheduled for Jan. 29, while exams on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 will proceed as planned.
St. Michael’s College School will be closed on Monday, with all classes and after-school activities cancelled.
York Region
York Catholic District School Board is closing all of its schools on Monday. Secondary students with exams scheduled for Monday will have them rescheduled to Thursday. Tuesday and Wednesday’s exams will proceed as originally scheduled.
York Region District School Board has announced the closure of all schools and board locations to students on Monday.
Durham Region
All Durham District School Board and Durham Catholic District School Board school sites are closed on Monday. Durham Student Transportation Services has cancelled all bus service for both boards.
Dufferin-Peel
All Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board schools and offices/facilities are closed to students and staff on Monday due to the winter weather. Secondary exams scheduled for Monday will be moved to the designated Contingency Day.
Peel District School Board is closing all schools and worksites on Monday, including childcare, night school, and permitted activities. Exams scheduled for Monday will be rescheduled to Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the same time, while exams scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, will continue as planned.
Halton
Halton District and Halton Catholic District School Board schools and administrative centers will be closed, and transportation services are cancelled in Zones 1, 2 & 3 on January 26, 2026. The Halton Catholic District School Board stated the decision prioritizes the safety of students, families, and staff given the significant snowfall and deteriorating road conditions.
Hamilton
Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is closing all schools, administrative buildings, and workplaces, including the Education Centre, on Monday. All learning, both in-person and remote, and childcare services have been cancelled. Exams for secondary students are postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27.
The board stated that ongoing snowfall continues to impact road conditions and snow removal, resulting in transportation cancellations.
French-language school closures/bus cancellations
Conseil Scolaire Viamonde, the French-language public board in southwestern Ontario, is closing its schools and child care centres on Monday in York, Durham, Toronto, Peel, and Halton, with the possibility of further closures to be announced.
