A woman, believed to be a lawyer, was fatally shot Monday morning in Johannesburg’s city centre while on her way to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
Johannesburg Shooting: Lawyer Fatally Shot Near Magistrate’s Court
The shooting occurred near the corner of Fox and Joubert streets, an area close to both the magistrate’s court and the CCMA offices. Security company Vision Tactical reported that the woman had parked her vehicle and was walking towards the CCMA when she was shot in public view. Witnesses reportedly heard four gunshots.
The incident follows a shooting in January outside the Booysens magistrate’s court, which prompted calls from Gauteng MPLs for a security review.
Last year, advocates and attorneys shared their concerns with the Sunday Times Daily regarding safety around court precincts, describing trips to Gauteng’s high courts as a huge safety concern.
This is a developing story.
