Harare Man Jailed After Heated Dispute Over HIV Status

A 38-year-old man from Southlea Park has been sentenced to an effective nine months in prison for the physical assault of his girlfriend following a dispute regarding his HIV status.

The incident occurred on March 8, 2026, at the Southlea Park shopping centre. According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the man repeatedly punched his 31-year-old girlfriend in the face after she accused him of infecting her with HIV.

The man appeared before a Mbare magistrate facing charges of physical abuse. The court sentenced him to a 12-month jail term, with three months suspended on the condition of good behavior.

Medical examination results for the victim were presented as evidence during the trial to confirm the extent of the physical injuries sustained in the assault.
