Two horses were seen galloping down the streets of Pasir Ris, Singapore, on March 3, disrupting traffic on the 15th day of the Chinese New Year, also known as Chap Goh Mei.

Horses Spotted in Pasir Ris

Video footage circulating on social media shows a bay-coloured horse and a white horse trotting down Pasir Ris Drive 3. In one clip, the bay horse is seen grazing on grass by the roadside.

The horses were also observed galloping down the middle of the road towards a traffic light, with motorcycles and cars maintaining a safe distance.

Police responded to the incident and worked with stable staff to safely secure the horses. The horses were returned to their stables approximately two hours after they bolted, according to a police statement. “Officers responded promptly and worked with stable staff to safely secure the horses. The horses were subsequently returned to their stables without incident,” the statement read.

Ken Ku, a 35-year-old Pasir Ris resident, initially thought the horses were undergoing training when he heard galloping sounds on his way to a McDonald’s outlet. He later noted they appeared “a bit lost,” moving forward and then back.

Ku, the chief executive of an investment advice firm, said the horses headed towards Elias Road before turning back and also entered a lane near a block of flats.

The horses are believed to be from Gallop Stable in Pasir Ris Park, which has operated in the area since 2003 and offers various horse-related activities. The stable also has a location in Bukit Timah.

Gallop Stable posted on Instagram stating the horses “decided to explore the neighbourhood but we’re happy to share they are safely back home, calm and well.”

The Animal and Veterinary Service has been contacted for further details. A similar incident involving three horses galloping down a road in Pasir Ris was reported in 2016 by citizen journalism website Stomp.
