Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max Enters Review Phase Following Global Launch
Following the recent global launch event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max has arrived at our headquarters to undergo a comprehensive review. This new device leads the Pura 90s series, which Huawei has explicitly designed for international markets outside of mainland China. The company notes that the “s” designation signifies these special editions, which share the core hardware found in the China-only Pura 90 Pro Max.

Hardware Specifications and Design
The Pura 90s Pro Max features a premium build with a glass front and back supported by an aluminum frame. Measuring 164.0 x 77.1 x 8.1mm and weighing 231g, the device is rated IP68 and IP69 for dust and water resistance, capable of withstanding high-pressure water jets and immersion up to two meters for 30 minutes. The display is a 6.90-inch LTPO OLED panel with a resolution of 1308 x 2880 pixels, offering a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and an anti-reflective coating. Under the hood, the device is powered by the Kirin 9030S chipset and runs on EMUI 16. It is available in memory configurations of 256GB or 512GB, both paired with 12GB of RAM.
Advanced Camera Capabilities
The camera system is the headline feature of the Pura 90s series. Huawei has retained a variable aperture main camera, which now offers an f/1.4 to f/4.0 range. Compared to previous iterations, the f/1.4 aperture allows for approximately 30% more light intake.
The most significant upgrade, however, is the 200MP telephoto camera. This module utilizes a large 1/1.28-inch sensor with an 89mm f/2.6 lens, providing 4x optical zoom. Huawei pairs this hardware with its True-to-Colour Camera 2.0
pipeline. Additionally, the device introduces AI Composition 3.0, a real-time framing assistant. This tool analyzes the viewfinder to provide on-screen instructions, guiding users to align their shots while automatically adjusting zoom between 2x and 100x to balance light and perspective.
Regional Variations and Connectivity
While the hardware remains consistent, there are notable regional variations in the Pura 90s Pro Max specifications:

| Feature | Global Specification |
|---|---|
| Battery (Global) | 6,000 mAh |
| Battery (EU) | 5,500 mAh |
| Wired Charging | 100W |
| Wireless Charging | 80W |
Retail packaging typically includes a USB cable, a clear hard case, and a 100W charger, though contents may vary by location. Regarding connectivity, Huawei has marketed the device as a 5.5G-capable handset in regions like the UAE, though 5.5G functions as a marketing label for enhanced 5G rather than a distinct, independently verifiable technical standard. The wireless stack includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NearLink support, and eSIM functionality.
Ecosystem Context and Market Availability
The Pura 90s series was introduced alongside the MatePad Air tablet and the FreeClip 2 Special Edition earbuds at an event held at the Museum of the Future in Dubai. Huawei is positioning these devices as an integrated “all-scenario” ecosystem where the phone, tablet, and earbuds are designed to work together seamlessly. It is important to note that due to ongoing trade restrictions, Huawei’s flagship devices remain unavailable through official channels in the United States. Consequently, the Pura 90s series rollout is currently focused on international markets, such as the UAE and other regions where Huawei has previously established a presence. While there has been online speculation regarding a potential Pura 90 Ultra, Huawei has not confirmed its existence or a potential international release. For now, the Pura 90s Pro Max stands as the flagship offering in the global lineup.
