Indonesia has clarified that its participation in the US-initiated Board of Peace for Gaza does not signify recognition of Israel or endorsement of its actions, reiterating its firm commitment to Palestinian independence.
Indonesia’s Stance on the Board of Peace for Gaza
Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha C. Nasir addressed the matter during a coordination meeting with the House of Representatives’ Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) in Jakarta on Feb. 19. Nasir stated Indonesia’s involvement in the board, launched by US President Donald Trump, aims to ensure continued engagement in international efforts to promote justice, independence, and lasting peace for the Palestinian people.
According to Nasir, Indonesia’s participation allows the nation to influence diplomatic processes concerning Gaza while upholding its constitutional obligation to support the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Nasir also briefed lawmakers on Indonesia’s diplomatic achievements in 2025 and outlined foreign policy priorities for the coming year, including peace diplomacy, the protection of Indonesian citizens abroad, and a more proactive role in addressing global strategic issues.
Upholding Indonesia’s Foreign Policy
BKSAP Chairman Syahrul Aidi Maazat emphasized the importance of the government adhering to Indonesia’s “free and active” foreign policy doctrine, which prioritizes independence in decision-making and participation in global peace initiatives.
“It is vital to ensure that Indonesia’s presence in international forums, including the Board of Peace, remains consistent with the Constitution and our long-standing support for Palestinian independence,” Maazat said. “We cannot let our diplomacy lose its moral compass.”
The meeting also served as a platform for the Foreign Ministry and the legislature to strengthen coordination on foreign policy initiatives and align their priority agendas. Both sides agreed to enhance information-sharing on strategic developments and expand inter-parliamentary partnerships to bolster Indonesia’s international influence.
Officials anticipate that closer collaboration between the executive branch and parliament will help synchronize diplomatic programs and advance Indonesia’s national interests while contributing to global peace efforts.
