Exiled Iranian crown prince Reza Pahlavi called for the complete dismantling of Iran’s ruling regime during a speech Saturday, arguing that recent military pressure has created an opportunity to topple the Islamic Republic.
Call for Regime Change
Pahlavi stated that a free Iran is “within reach right now.” He framed the current moment as a turning point, asserting that the Iranian people are fighting for their own freedom and for global security.
He argued the current government is beyond reform, stating, “You cannot reform a snake. Venom is in its DNA.” Pahlavi warned that allowing any part of the regime to remain would enable it to regroup and resume its nuclear ambitions and regional aggression, predicting they would “pretend to negotiate… and then return to their old ways.”
Pahlavi credited recent U.S. and Israeli military operations with weakening Iran’s leadership and capabilities, claiming the regime’s “repressive machine” has been degraded and its leadership “decimated.” He also pointed to widespread protests earlier this year, saying Iranians are prepared to rise up again when the time is right, and that “The final blow will be delivered by the people of Iran themselves.”
He said he is prepared to lead a democratic transition, citing support from opposition groups and elements within Iran’s military, and pledged to avoid instability, stating, “Iran is not Iraq,” and “There will be no chaos.” Pahlavi urged the United States to maintain pressure on Tehran, saying, “What we ask of America now is simple: stay the course.”
Pahlavi closed by outlining a vision of a post-regime Iran aligned with the U.S. and its allies, stating that a free and democratic Iran “will stand alongside the United States as a partner, an ally and a friend.”
