Qatar’s defense ministry said it downed Iranian missiles targeting the country on Saturday, as attacks were reported across the Gulf region following a reported U.S.–Israeli strike.
Regional Attacks Reported
Kuwait International Airport was reportedly hit by a drone, and the Fairmont Hotel on Dubai’s Palm was set ablaze. Bahrain’s capital, Manama – home to the U.S. Fifth Fleet – also reportedly faced missile attacks from Iran.
Saudi Arabia accused Tehran of a “cowardly and criminal attack” and stated it reserved the right to respond. As the Gulf’s largest power, Saudi Arabia often reflects the views of other states in the region.
In the weeks prior to the U.S.-Israeli strike, Arab countries attempted to dissuade Donald Trump from military action, fearing a scenario like the one unfolding, especially after warnings from Iranian officials that their response would differ this time. Iran fired a barrage at the Al-Udeid base in Qatar last June, which already caused concern among Arab leaders.
