A disturbing video circulating on social media shows gunmen shooting two men at a store in Mfuleni, South Africa. The 32-second clip depicts the shooters opening fire on the victims, one outside and one inside the Al-Baraka Cash Store, in what appears to be a brazen act of violence.

Mfuleni Shooting Caught on Video

In the video, one shooter exits a vehicle while another records the incident. The first victim is shot in the legs outside the store, while the second victim is shot five times in the head inside the shop. The shooting occurred in front of a woman and a small child who were inside the spaza shop.

Police have stated they have no record of the incident. Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed, “Kindly be advised that this office has no recent record of the incident. An update will be made if new information surfaces.”

Mvano Magula, public relations officer for the Mfuleni Community Police Forum (CPF), said the CPF is aware of the video and that gun violence and crime in the area are out of control. Magula expressed fear for his safety, stating he is vocal about the ongoing crime in the community.

The incident took place in an area known as Driftsands. According to Magula, the victims “were just standing in the shop innocently, purchasing goods for their homes…and that is when these criminals stopped and just started shooting.”

Magula noted that community members are afraid to report incidents. He added, “We have had situations where people were killed outside of court or on their way to court, or criminals are released, and they kill the person, or they are being threatened from prison. We cannot trust anyone.”

Crime statistics indicate Mfuleni is among the top 10 policing districts for murder cases in the country. Magula stated that services are unable to enter Mfuleni without a police escort.
