JMPD distances itself from fong kong cop!

The Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has stated it is unaware of the reported arrest of an impostor officer who allegedly extorted motorists in the Johannesburg CBD.

JMPD spokesman Xolani Fihla clarified that the department has no knowledge of the incident. He further noted that an image circulating in connection with the reports is actually from a separate case.

The confusion follows reports that a foreign national, believed to be Zimbabwean, was apprehended during a targeted operation. The individual allegedly posed as an officer, using a fake uniform and reflective vest to demand “spot fines” from drivers and pedestrians.

JMPD Clarification and Public Warning

Despite the circulating reports, the JMPD cannot confirm if the arrest occurred or identify which agency may have been involved.

Authorities warned the public that genuine Joburg Metro Police Department officers do not accept cash on the roadside. Anyone who encounters an officer demanding money on the spot should be reported immediately.
