The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics will mark a significant milestone in Games history by relying entirely on existing infrastructure. For the first time in 80 years, the event will feature no newly built permanent venues, instead utilizing more than 40 established sites across Southern California and several other U.S. cities.
A Regional Venue Strategy
The Games will span 36 sports hosted across two dozen zones. In the Los Angeles area, historic landmarks such as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Exposition Park and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena are slated to host events. Other venues include the Los Angeles Convention Center, Dodger Stadium, Crypto.com Arena, Peacock Theater, BMO Stadium (to be called Exposition Park Stadium), Galen Center, SoFi Stadium, and the Intuit Dome. The footprint of the Games extends well beyond Southern California. Olympic events are scheduled for San Diego, including surfing at Lower Trestles Beach and soccer at Snapdragon Stadium. Additional soccer matches are slated for New York, Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Columbus, Nashville, and San Jose.

Ticketing and Pricing Structure
LA28 plans to offer 14 million tickets across the Olympic and Paralympic Games. While early ticket sales saw prices as high as $5,000 for the opening ceremony and $2,500 for gymnastics finals, organizers stated that the average Olympic ticket price, including a 24% service fee, is less than $200. Regarding the highly anticipated $28 tickets, LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover confirmed that 1 million such tickets are planned for the Games. Fans who did not purchase their full allotment of 12 tickets during the initial round will be automatically entered into future lottery draws. LA28 has not provided a specific schedule for subsequent ticket releases but indicated that the process will follow the same lottery and time-slot registration model.
Volunteer Requirements and Roles
LA28 is seeking approximately 60,000 volunteers to support the 2028 Games. The volunteer application portal is scheduled to open on July 14, 2026, exactly two years before the opening ceremony. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 10 shifts within a single period. The Olympic volunteer window spans from March to August 2028, while Paralympic volunteers are needed from August to September 2028. Roles range from welcoming spectators and guiding athletes to providing specialized services such as medical assistance or language translation. While most positions are based in Los Angeles, volunteer opportunities will also exist in the other host cities identified for the Games.

Logistical Challenges and Transparency
As planning continues, questions remain regarding the transportation infrastructure required to move athletes, officials, and media. A central point of concern is the “Games Route Network” (GRN), a system of priority streets and highways intended for accredited participants. According to reports, the public has not yet received clear information regarding the locations of these priority routes, who will fund them, or how they will affect local business access and neighborhood circulation. While the Games Mobility Executive (GME) was established to coordinate between LA28, the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), Caltrans, and local cities, there are concerns regarding accountability and communication. Ensuring that spectator shuttles and public transportation can operate efficiently alongside official priority lanes remains a key unresolved issue for the organizers as they move toward the 2028 start date.
