The number of American service members wounded in attacks related to the conflict in Iran has surpassed 300, with more than two dozen troops injured this week alone. A recent attack on a Saudi air base involving ballistic missiles and drones caused injuries to at least 15 U.S. troops, including five seriously wounded.
Iran Attacks Saudi Air Base, Increasing US Troop Injuries
Iran launched six ballistic missiles and 29 drones at Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan air base on Friday, resulting in injuries to at least 15 troops, according to sources briefed on the matter. U.S. officials initially reported at least 10 U.S. troops were injured, including two seriously.
Reinforcements are arriving in the Middle East, including a Navy ship carrying approximately 2,500 Marines. The USS Tripoli, an amphibious assault ship, and the elements of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard, are currently based in the region.
The USS Tripoli and its Marine contingent were conducting exercises near Taiwan when they received orders to deploy to the Middle East almost two weeks ago.
