Legal Details of Academic Critics Reported to Jakarta Metro Jaya Police

Saiful Mujani was reported by Robina Akbar, representing the East Jakarta Community Alliance. Sr. Comr. Budi Hermanto, Head of the Public Relations Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, confirmed the report on April 9, 2026.

The complaint alleges violations of Article 246 of the Criminal Code, citing incitement against authorities. The reports stem from an event titled “Before Observers Are Disciplined,” where Mujani argued that removing President Prabowo Subianto from office was necessary to protect the nation.

Mujani stated that his expressions were personal opinions that should not be criminalized, suggesting that criticism should be countered with further criticism rather than legal action.

Hate Speech Allegations Against Ubedilah Badrun

Ubedilah Badrun was reported to the police on April 13, 2026, following a podcast appearance. In the recording, Badrun referred to President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a “burden to the nation.”

Badrun told investigators he had no intention of spreading hatred, asserting that his comments were a critique of the country’s current state rooted in data and scholarship. As of April 18, 2026, Badrun has not received a summons for clarification.

Reports Filed Against Feri Amsari

Constitutional Law expert Feri Amsari has been targeted by two separate reports. The first was filed by a student identified as RMN, alleging violations of Article 246 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

A second report was filed by Minta Ito Simamora of the Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Tani. Ito alleged that Amsari’s comments regarding national self-sufficiency had the potential to sow discord between farmers and traders.

Police investigators are currently reviewing evidence submitted by the complainants.
