KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 — The Malaysian Army has stated it will not tolerate misconduct among its personnel following a viral controversy surrounding what has been termed the “yeye culture.” The Army’s new leadership is taking the matter seriously and will launch an immediate internal investigation.

Addressing the “Yeye Culture” Controversy

The Army acknowledged the issue has gained widespread attention online and generated negative public perceptions. Firm action will be taken against anyone found to have breached service rules, according to a statement released by the force.

The Army stressed it will not compromise on misconduct, regardless of whether it involves officers or enlisted personnel, if wrongdoing is proven. Longer-term enforcement and preventive measures are also being strengthened to address integrity issues and immoral behaviour within the force.

These measures include regular reminders and ongoing monitoring to curb integrity issues and immoral activities. Commanders at all levels have been instructed to play a more active oversight role.

As part of broader preventive efforts, the Army will reinforce values-based training across its ranks. Moral education, integrity awareness, and ethical training will be strengthened at all formation levels.

The Army also plans to intensify religious and spiritual activities to instill professionalism, discipline, and strong personal values among its members. The leadership reiterated its commitment to maintaining public confidence in the institution.

Integrity and professionalism are essential to the Army’s role as a national defence force, and the leadership remains committed to ensuring the institution continues to be trusted, respected, and supported by the public, in the interest of national security and sovereignty.
