Name suppression has lifted for a man charged in connection with the damage to Foreign Minister Winston Peters’ window. Marcel Stephenson, 29, is scheduled to stand trial on September 28.
Window Smashed After Gaza Flotilla Interception
Stephenson has pleaded not guilty, and the trial is expected to last three days. He was arrested after turning himself in to police following the incident at Peters’ St Mary’s Bay home on October 6, 2025, at approximately 5:40 p.m.
Stephenson had sought to continue name suppression, but the 21-day period to appeal that lapsed. The incident occurred after protestors gathered outside the NZ First leader’s home following an interception by Israeli forces of a flotilla of activists heading to Gaza carrying symbolic aid.
Stephenson’s lawyer, Jonathan Hudson, previously stated that his client was not involved in the protest activity. Peters condemned the incident as “truly gutless” at the time.
Peters was not at home during the incident, but his partner and dog were present. His partner sustained injuries from broken glass.
