Man arrested for breaking into house in Bartley estate; $38,900 watch stolen

A man has been arrested in Singapore for his suspected involvement in a housebreaking incident. Police responded to a report of a break-in at a residential premises in How Sun Estate on Feb. 28.

Housebreaking Investigation

Police were alerted to the incident at 9:12 p.m. on Feb. 28 at a residence in How Sun Estate, near Bartley MRT station.

The suspect was identified through ground enquiries and police camera footage, and was arrested on March 3.

Preliminary investigations indicate the man allegedly entered the unit without permission and stole $400 in cash and a watch valued at $38,900. The watch has been recovered and seized as evidence.

The 60-year-old man is expected to be charged on March 5 with housebreaking. A conviction could result in a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.

Police advise property owners to secure all potential entry points, including doors, windows, and roller shutters, with grilles and padlocks when leaving their premises unattended.

Homeowners are also encouraged to avoid keeping large amounts of cash and valuables at their homes. Installing burglar alarms, motion sensor lights, or CCTV cameras to cover access points is also recommended.
