Man due in court over Northern Ireland murder investigation

A 35-year-old man is due to appear before Dungannon Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of Carrie Mullane and the prevention of the lawful burial of a body. Ms Mullane, a 39-year-old mother of four originally from Moyross in Limerick, has been missing since she arrived in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, on 10 October 2026. Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) detectives believe it is very likely she came to harm shortly after arriving.

The Timeline of the Missing Person Investigation

An Garda Síochána alerted the PSNI to Ms Mullane’s disappearance on 29 October, triggering intensive searches across County Fermanagh. Detectives subsequently secured a 36-hour court extension to question a 35-year-old suspect before formally charging him. Ahead of a video-link court appearance scheduled for 7 November, police carried out a number of searches in County Fermanagh, including Lough Erne. Officers recovered a small boat and a campervan, taking both vehicles away for examination.

The Search for Crucial Clues on Lough Erne

Investigators released images of the recovered campervan and boat in an effort to trace their movements between late 10 October and 1 November. The last confirmed sighting of Ms Mullane places her taking a taxi from the Enniskillen bus station on Wellington Road to Trasna Park at approximately 9pm on that Saturday evening. Detective Superintendent Richard Thornton from the PSNI Serious Crime Branch urged the public to examine the newly published photographs carefully.

“Carrie is a much loved mother, sister and friend and is greatly missed by everyone who knows and loves her,”

Detective Superintendent Richard Thornton, PSNI

Mr Thornton noted that Ms Mullane traveled to Enniskillen with a man known to her. Authorities specifically appealed to boat owners on Upper Lough Erne who might have spotted the small vessel between the late hours of 10 October and 1 November. Anyone with dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage is encouraged to upload files via the Major Incident Public Portal or contact authorities directly.
