A 48-year-old man will be charged with murder on March 10 following a fight with a 70-year-old man in Geylang. The elderly man died in hospital on March 9 after suffering stab wounds to the chest.
Geylang Fight Leads to Murder Charge
Police were alerted to the fight along Lorong 16 Geylang at about 8:15 a.m. on March 9. Officers found the injured elderly man at the scene.
The 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to another hospital while conscious. Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men knew each other.
The offence of murder carries the death penalty. Police investigations are ongoing.
On March 9, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said it transported one man to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the other to Raffles Hospital.
Seven murders were reported in 2025. Other recent cases include a man allegedly killing his younger brother in Boon Lay on March 11, and a man charged over his mother’s death in Sengkang on June 1. A woman was also killed after a noise dispute in Yishun on Sept 24.
Physical crime has been rising, increasing from 19,969 cases in 2024 to 20,857 in 2025. Knife-related incidents also saw a slight increase in 2025, rising to 137 cases from 131 the previous year.
