TikTok Closes Nashville Office and Lays Off Local Staff

TikTok has closed its Nashville office in the Moore Building and laid off all local staff, just two years after signing a major lease on Music Row. A company spokesperson confirmed the shutdown, citing efforts to streamline operations and align teams for long-term growth.

The social media giant shuttered its Nashville workspace located inside the Moore Building on 19th Ave. S., dismantling a local team that had grown substantially since the company expanded its footprint in Tennessee. While exact employee headcounts for the Nashville closure remain unconfirmed, the sudden exit brings an abrupt end to a regional hub that was established to connect directly with the city’s creative and entertainment industries.

Music Row Expansion and the 2024 Lease

The shutdown arrives just a little over two years after TikTok signed a massive 143,610-square-foot lease on Music Row in April 2024. That transaction marked one of Nashville’s largest office deals of the year and nearly tripled the company’s local operating footprint. Before moving into the midtown development, TikTok’s Nashville employees worked out of a downtown WeWork coworking space starting in 2021.

The expansion into Music Row was designed to anchor the company closer to local creative and music agencies, including entities such as Iffert Media, Innovo Management, and Alchemy Artist Services. However, the physical footprint expansion coincided with heightened political scrutiny. When the office deal was first announced, Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn publicly opposed the move, arguing that the application presented national security risks.

Corporate Restructuring and the Official Statement

The closure forms part of a broader corporate realignment across TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance.

“We have decided to close our Nashville office to streamline our operations and better align our teams for long-term growth. We remain fully committed to providing secure, safe and positive experiences for the 200 million Americans that create, discover and connect with what they love on TikTok.”

Local reporting from outlets including FOX 17 News and the Nashville Business Journal confirmed that the realignment resulted in the termination of all staff members stationed at the Music Row facility.

Broader Industry Workforce Reductions

The Nashville office closure follows a series of targeted workforce reductions across TikTok’s global divisions. In October, the company laid off approximately 15 employees within its U.S. and Latin American music divisions, affecting roles centered on music-related partnerships and programming teams. Additional job cuts hit the company’s U.K. office during the same period.

Those reductions followed an earlier round of efficiency-driven cuts in 2023, which saw seven U.S.-based staffers eliminated from the artist services team. Despite these divisional contractions, the platform continues to report massive domestic usage, with Sprout Social data showing approximately 136 million users in the United States in 2025.
