Globe and Taguig City collaborated to conduct a digital safety workshop for student leaders and teachers, aiming to strengthen online protection for young Filipinos amid rising cases of cyberbullying and online exploitation. The Children’s Digital Safety Workshop, held November 13, 2025, equipped participants with essential skills in data privacy and responsible online behavior.
Strengthening Digital Protection for Youth
As digital platforms increasingly shape the lives of young Filipinos, the need to safeguard children online has become paramount. Globe partnered with the City Government of Taguig to address this need through the workshop, held at the CDRRMO Training Plaza in Barangay Central Signal.
The event brought together 115 student leaders and teachers from Taguig’s public secondary schools. National data indicates a growing trend of cyberbullying, misuse of personal information, and online exploitation, underscoring the importance of digital literacy and responsible online conduct.
Expert Sessions and Digital Citizenship Training
Globe contributed two expert sessions to the program. Privacy Compliance Expert Karen Panisales provided guidance on safeguarding personal data and understanding the risks associated with interconnectedness. Jan Merced, Communications Manager, led the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), Globe’s digital citizenship training initiative, which has reached over 4 million students and educators since its launch in 2016.
Through hands-on activities, participants learned to identify online threats, foster positive digital interactions, and make informed choices online.
Collaboration for Online Safety
The initiative highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, law enforcement, and the private sector in protecting children online. Representatives from the PNP Crime Division Office and the Department of Justice (DOJ) – National Coordination Center against OSAEC and CSAEM discussed Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), risk factors, and reporting channels.
Prosecutor Lara Sanchez emphasized the importance of awareness and prompt action in preventing abuse, noting that many incidents begin subtly and are often overlooked. She stated, “When young people understand the early signs of exploitation and know how to report, they become key allies in stopping harm before it escalates.”
Globe reinforced the message, emphasizing the power of youth-led advocacy and digital responsibility. “This program reflects our collective duty to ensure that every young person is protected in digital spaces,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe. “By equipping student leaders with practical skills and insights, we help them guide their peers and create safer online communities where children can grow and thrive.”
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano encouraged students to apply their learnings and share them with their classmates, emphasizing the role of young leaders in promoting safe and responsible online behavior. “Our young leaders have the capacity to influence their peers in meaningful ways, and by taking what they learned today into their classrooms and communities, they help build a safer and more responsible digital environment for all children.”
This collaborative effort underscores Globe’s commitment to building safe, inclusive, and empowered digital communities for children.
